Dazcat
1150
Dazcats
have traditionally done well in the RBR; of five entries they have had
two winners and two places in the top three, both in class and overall.
In 2010 there’ll be another crossing the start line, a D1150 built
for Multimarine Director Simon Baker, who previously owned Paradox,
a D10 Racing Trimaran. Paradox did very well in previous races, winning
with Simon’s brother Matt in 2006, before she was badly damaged
at the first aborted start of the Fastnet in the same year.
The new 1150 has been described as “the best racer’s cruiser.”
She has the same hull lines as the elegant and race-winning 12m Dazzle,
which give her a great pair of legs for eating up the miles, but with
a new coachroof with a self-tacking jib mounted on its low, sleek profile.
A curved main sheet track ensures the traveller will dump when things
get a little exciting. An alternative coachroof for those who need a
little extra height and don't mind the slight adjustment in performance,
is also available.
She has been kept very light with carbon reinforcements and a carbon
rig, and simple, light deck gear. To further reduce weight and windage
we elected to remove the forward beam. She has options for inboards
or a pair of outboards.
Accommodation
is basic but comfortable, in keeping with her other life as a family
cruiser. Cruising kit has been kept to a minimum, but it is possible
to retro fit a fridge, cooker, pressurised hot water and other luxuries.
The first, Drama Queen, was launched in March 2009 in time for the Falmouth-Fowey
weekend, which she won overall, then on to the Round the Island Race
(5th) and the MOCRA nationals (2nd) and MOCRA Bembridge Regatta (3rd).
