Belladonna
relaunched |
||||||||||
James Jermain, consultant editor for Yachting Monthly, journalist extraordinaire and, more importantly, the new owner of Dazcat 10m Belladonna, has had her into the yard for some racing upgrades and to have extras fitted to make her compliant for RORC racing. James has had a new Doyle genoa, which has been fitted to a new Harken roller furler, and modifications have included a new composite forestay joint and seagull striker to enable the furler to be positioned as low as possible, aft push pits to secure the aft deck, new Harken genoa tracks and Spinlock clutches for sheet controls, safety jack stays and a new forward net from Geoff the Net, our Millbrook-based net specialist. |

| Above: Daz weighing her up before she was craned onto the beach. She was still the same svelte 3.2 tonnes as the day she first went into the water 7 years ago. No water retention for our Bella; below: hoisted aloft to wait for the tide to come in; left: motoring to her new berth down the beach; below left:another satisfied customer. | ||||||||||

| Racing | ||||||||||
This year looks to be very exciting with lot of boat fettling going on in Millbrook for the up and coming season. The first shake down for our 10 RT Paradox was the Plymouth - Falmouth - Fowey - Plymouth races at the end of April. Come on you sportsters, read our race report, get inspired and get racing. And watch out for the excessive drinking. Multimarine has also been spending bundles of money sponsoring Paradox for this year’s Round Britain and Ireland Race, including a new Doyle screecher to complement her sail inventory. This has been connected to a new Carver roller furler from Allspars. Matt Baker will be sailing with Rob Husbands, regular crew on super yachts and multihull convert. Another Dazcat will be taking part, the 920 Pallet Line (formerly known as Leigh). It will be interesting to see how they shape up against each other. |

| Grateful thanks to Gareth Evans for taking these pictures. He was on Mighty Max III and took these as he was being overtaken - he was sorry he couldn't take any more but Paradox was going too fast! Even with six up she was powering along. | ||||||||||

Cruising |
||||||||||
| Tony
Cotton is still cruising on his Dazcat 10 Bedazzled,
with further plans to sail up north again. We hope to hear more about
his adventures soon - hopefully with some pictures, Tony?
Tom and Nigel Bligh have got Dazcat 14m Lady Bounty ready for launch - the biggest beach cat on the Helford River. They plan to continue enjoying cruising from there to different events, including a variety of operas around the coast. Sounds like there’s a feature article there too. Mike and
Carol Sills, ex-Belladonna,
are now owners of Born Slippy,
the Dazcat 1190, which is looking good for launching in June when sea
trials will be done ready for extended cruising. She is self-sufficient,
with solar panels and a water maker. Just add a little diesel of course
for the twin Volvo engines, 3.5kva Dynamica generator for electric cooking
and refrigeration and Eberspächer diesel heating. The main power
plant has been supplied by Doyle and Eurospars. It’s hoped Born
Slippy will live up to her name to be one of the quickest
cruisers around. Mike and Carol intend to head south to the warmer waters
of the Mediterranean, sunshine and Sangria. I might have to go too;
it sounds great. |

Boat
Shows |
||||||||||
| For
those of you who missed it at the end of April, and fancy a great day
out to enjoy a gab about multihulls, why not drop down to Emsworth for
their Multihull Boat Show, which runs throughout the Southampton show.
There will be lots to look at, and all the kit. If you don’t want
to buy a boat there’s a nice little bar with plenty of friendly
faces and like-minded people. |

Bargains |
||||||||||
| We
are starting a new page on the Dazcat website - BARGAIN BOAT JUMBLE -
where you can list all the spare kit you want to sell online. There will
be a 10% admin fee, added to the price you give us. Email us your lists
of kit for sale or, if you can’t find what you want, give us a call
or email and we will see what we can find for you. The page should be
up and running by the end of May. Wishing
you a happy summer’s sailing and messing about on the water, from
Darren Newton and the team at Dazcat. |
